Project Description
Much of the work of urban planning and policymaking takes place at the state and local level, with the impacts playing out in cities and neighborhoods. But decisions made in cities are also heavily influenced (and funded) by federal policies and programs. As former mayor of San Antonio and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development during the Obama administration, Julián Castro has unique insight into the federal government’s role in promoting fair housing, housing affordability and equity.
For our first HEC of the 2020-21 academic year, Michael Lens, associate faculty director, moderated a discussion with Secretary Castro, Cecilia Estolano of Estolano Advisors, and José Loya, assistant professor of urban planning.
The HEC series is a UCLA joint endeavor from the Lewis Center and the Ziman Center for Real Estate.
